Aaron Jolly Davis, Sr. was born November 4, 1955, in Bartlesville, OK, to Alvin and Barbara Davis. At the age of 10, as a foster child, he was brought into the loving home of Rev. Russel and Mrs. Gladys Nuckols who reared him into adulthood and nurtured him as their very own. He accepted Christ at the tender age of 12 years old and was baptized shortly thereafter. Aaron attended Nowata Schools and was found to be an extremely intelligent child even through life challenges. Upon adulthood, he moved to Coffeyville, KS. In 1981, on the family farm, he married the love of his life, Mattie F. White.

He was a handyman. He continued his membership at the Union Missionary Baptist Church in Coffeyville, where his father, Rev. Nuckols, pastored. He loved barbeques, frisbee, basketball and holidays with his family, especially the Fourth of July.  Aaron’s life was always marred with many tests & trials. Many would not have had the tenacious spirit he had for life in general if faced with the same life challenges. But his determination was incomparable. Even while in the nursing home, his ultimate desire was to always be able to live in his own apartment and have the freedom to do for himself surrounded by family. He resubmitted his life to Christ and, as a result, God saw fit to do him one better and bless him with a mansion where he can WALK around freely in heaven all day!

Robert Welch

1937-2017

Robert Welch, age 79, of Independence, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.

Celebration of life services will be held at 5:00 PM, Thursday, April 13, 2017, at Zach Webb Family Funeral Service with Brother Tom Barton of the Caney Church of Christ officiating.  Family will receive friends starting at 4:00 PM.  Memorial contributions may be made to Animals With Our Love (AWOL) and sent to Zach Webb Family Funeral Service, 1475 S. 10th St., Independence, KS  67301.

Robert Eugene Welch was born October 13, 1937, in Wadena, IA, to Theodore and Chrystal (Leonhart) Welch.  He was the 4th of 5 children. The family migrated west to California and Bob went to school in Ojai, CA. He attended Nordoff High School, class of '56.  In March of 1957, he married Mary Jane (Shrock), and they were blessed with 60 good years together, and they celebrated their luck each year on Saint Patrick's Day, March 17, their anniversary.

Bob was a mechanic in the Orange Groves of the Ojai Valley and served as Motor Pool Sergeant

in the U S Army.  As a third-generation carpenter, he was an accomplished home builder and craftsman.  In the early 60s the family resided in Simi Valley, CA, and Bob enjoyed a successful career building the new "track" homes there.  In 1968, the family moved to Hawaii, where Bob helped to build the landmark preplanned community of Mililani Town on the island of Oahu.  Many happy years were spent in the islands and Bob adapted well to the Aloha lifestyle.  In 1982, Bob and Mary Jane left their tropical paradise to break ground for the 1982 Worlds Fair in Knoxville, TN, where they spent the year onsite.  Tennessee was yet another adventure in a lifetime filled with many.  They later lived in the historic mission town of San Juan Bautista, CA, and enjoyed lots of good times among friends  in the beautiful gardens of Jardines de San Juan.  In October 2005 the couple retired and moved to Independence as Mary Jane looked forward to being close to family, and Bob to his extra-large workshop.  In 2014,  Bob became a great grandfather and the times spent in California with River Bob were filled with light and laughter. From gentle little baby moments to the later Tonka truck floor play, it was the best of times.

As a young man Bob rode an old Indian motorcycle, and in later years raced a Triumph Bonneville 650 across the Mojave Desert.  He zip lined in Costa Rica, white water river rafted in the Carolinas, and hunted large game in Wyoming.  He stood on the top ridge of Mauna Loa Volcano Park and watched the sunrise.  He caught big fish in the ocean waters off of Hawaii, Costa Rica, Mexico and California.  He liked fast shiny cars, big trucks, motorcycles and loud music.  He worked hard and he played harder.  Most recently Bob acquired a quad and enjoyed riding it gleefully around the property and beyond. Through thick and thin he maintained his ritual Sunday and Monday night NFL viewing like a true fan.

At home he enjoyed his cats, Tillie , Smudge and Gizmo, and of course, working on "projects" in his workshop.  His little dog Bear was his adored and adoring companion until the very end.

Bob loved his family with fierce devotion.  He was a tender and attentive grandfather.  He was a good friend to many, and many good times were had with them. Bob was not shy. If someone needed help he stepped up, for as long as he was able.

He was one of a kind.  He was loved by many.  He will be missed.

Bob is survived by his wife;  Mary Jane Welch,Independence . Daughter; Peggy Sue Welch , Corralitos, CA.  Sister; Beverly Erickson, Ventura, CA.  Brother;  Bill Welch, Ojai, CA. Three grandchildren; Crystal Rose Toriumi, (Dave) Amber O' Rourke, (Josh) and Nathan Abaurrea; one great-grandson River Robert Toriumi, all residing in California .

In Kansas, Bob was blessed by the extended families of brother in law John Shrock and his children, Joy (Kevin), Jay, Jan, Joe (Danielle), Brian,  and sister-in-law Pat (husband Bob), her son Johnny and the circle of grandchildren and great-grandchildren that so generously welcomed him.  Life was immeasurably enriched for Bob by best buddy, Eric Tippen.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Chrystal Welch, son, Ronald Welch, and brother, Jimmy Welch.
